This was another winner. The Crown & Punchbowl has five en suite rooms and ours was perfectly cosy, light and open with a nice big bathroom. I wish we could have stayed longer than just one night.
We had a wonderful dinner in the main dining room in front of a roaring fire and breakfast in the conservatory. I really can't recommend it enough. We paid £100 for a double with breakfast.
Cambridge city center was an easy 15 minute drive but we also spent a little bit of time exploring tiny Horningsea.
After breakfast on Sunday we went for a walk. Oh, to live in the country. I can just imagine daily country walks with smiling dogs. It felt so good to be out in the fresh air.
It was a bit muddy and my shoes aren't quite the same, but it was worth it. We walked over to the River Cam and visited the Baits Bite Lock Weir.
There were so many people out walking, running, cycling. You could just follow the river right into Cambridge.
Matt and I often discuss where we would like to finally settle. City or country? Who knows? But we both agree that we want to be near water. Strolling down this country road, I could easily see myself here. Maybe living in a thatched roof cottage.
Horningsea even has its own library. It's located in the single red phone booth in the middle of the village.

What a pretty place. I could live there for sure. I live in an urban centre now but I grew up in the countryside. Though we are probably held to our current home until the kids move out, hubby and I dream of a country property in our retirement. We have 15 years to make plans I guess..... :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a quaint little place. It kind of reminds me of a little place Dave and I used to go here in Indiana called Metamora. Haven't been in years. We always stayed at this Inn that was a restaurant, a gift shop, and a b&b. Loved it.

ReplyDeleteI am both city and country as I was born and grew up, in early childhood in the country, then from teenage to young adult I lived in the city, then from then to a mixture of the two (lived itn Wilts & Glos) then back to the country before I left the UK for the city, but this time in the US!
