Goodbyes

We arrived home from our amazing road trip yesterday and today we're resting.

I'll be taking my dad & brother to the airport tomorrow.
I'm sure I'll spend the rest of the week quietly recovering from the difficult goodbyes.
It's the most heartbreaking part of this expat life.

The pics are random and have nothing to do with goodbyes.
But, they make me smile.

How do you deal with the aftermath of goodbye?

  1. Goodbyes suck. I almost always cry, it is really hard when you're alone in a country so far away - at least you have your hubby though. I suggest some of your favourite comfort food and being busy around people keeps your mind off it a bit.

  2. I wrote all about how I deal with homesickness here: http://englishgirlcanadianman.blogspot.ca/2013/10/you-cant-beat-homesicknessbut-you-can.html but the goodbyes are so raw I just have to do it quickly, like pulling off a plaster and then deal with the aftermath in the same way as homesickness. My thoughts are with you - I know how truly truly difficult it is xxx

  3. Yes goodbyes are so hard. I was so sad to leave my sis when I was back in Aus. I guess it just makes seeing them again all the more exciting.

  4. My Dad just runs away as quickly as possible. I just try and book as many things in with friends as I can to keep me distracted, something London is perfect for!

  5. I understand what you mean- this is how I felt when I lived a 'seasonal' life- working/living at one place for seven months of the year and then traveling in the off season. It was so hard to say goodbye to my friends, who were really like family, when we all went our separate ways. Thank goodness for the internet so it's easy to keep in touch!
The horse pictures made me smile, too! Important to have plenty of smile moments when we're feeling sad. *Hugs*

  6. You are so right. They suck! I cry when they arrive and again when they leave. Such an emotional things. It's already been weeks since they left. But I have such terrific memories. And my brother is anxious to come back. I think it's time for me to go home soon for a visit. (BTW I'm ready for our visit to Kews. Do you have time in the next few weekends??)

  8. It definitely makes you appreciate the time together more. Whenever, I would get snippy or annoyed (family knows your buttons) I would just think... Nope, this time is too precious. It was a wonderful few weeks. xo
