Our first evening in Marrakesh had to be spent in the middle of all the excitement.
The Jamaa el Fna is the heart of the old city and really comes alive at night.
Sometime around dusk dozens of food tents appear and smoke fills the air.
Hear the sizzle. Smell the meat cooking. Admire all of the fresh veggies.
Listen to the persistent young men try to entice you to their stall.
After all, it's the best and you won't be sorry!
Grab some dessert as the sweets trolley passes by.
Once your stomach is full and you're caught up in the atmosphere,
stroll around the square. It's much too early to go home and there is much to see.
Listen to the storytellers, watch the dancers and magicians.
Stop to haggle and make a bargain. You must take that little lantern home with you.
To remind you of the Jamaa el Fna at night.
We had some great moments in Marrakesh. Like this one.
But I'm afraid that there was also a downside to our visit.
More on that later this week.
Have you experienced Marrakesh at night?
What impressions did you bring home?
This place is really magical, I also enjoyed visiting it. But was it easy for you to take photos of people (since you got some really great ones)? My experience was that even though everybody was very friendly in general, they got kind of 'aggressive' when they noticed my camera.
ReplyDeleteI am just in awe of your photography skills!! Beautiful post - again!
ReplyDeleteI love black and white photography! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that everyone told me to go to this spot when in Marrakech and it was my least favorite of all the tourist spots... hmmm. Although it does like cool by night.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andi!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I plan on talking a lot more about that later this week. Worried about posting it but it's just our opinions.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Corinne. I need to use it more often, experiment.
ReplyDeleteWow, Sophie. Thanks for making my day! I love that camera!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to talk about that a bit more later in the week. I finally just put my camera away after getting yelled at so much. It was so stressful.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great to talk about the places we don't necessarily like, we can't like every single place... that's what makes us each unique.
ReplyDeleteThis just looks like one big awesome festival or something :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant post on Marrakech and nice pics! Makes us want to explore more of Morocco!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun atmosphere!
ReplyDeleteThey pop up every night so quickly. It's amazing to see them work to get them going. So much food and very noisy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Morocco was wonderful. I highly recommend it. Thanks so much for reading and commenting.
ReplyDeleteVery festive!!
