As one year comes to a close and we are faced with the promise of a blank calendar,
one of our favorite things to do together is to plan our travels for the upcoming year.
It's so exciting. There are just so many places to go and I've become addicted.
I want to see all of them!
We've pinned down our two big trips this year.
My brother and dad are visiting this summer and we're going to spend a week exploring Scotland.
And in the fall we are going to do another Explore! tour to the Balkans for two weeks.
We will explore Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina.
Matt is heading to Minsk with the guys this month,
but our first trip of the year together is Iceland in February.
I've had so much fun planning this trip and I can't wait.
We have our fingers crossed that we'll experience the Northern Lights.
In March, we are planning a trip to Dunkirk, France.
Matt's grandfather was captured at Dunkirk during WWII and spent five years as a prisoner or war.
We are going to take the car over on a ferry to explore some historical sights
as well as everything else that Dunkirk has to offer.
After an English winter, there is always the desire to find a warm beach as soon as possible.
We are planning a long weekend on a beach (probably Egypt) for the spring.
And a Girl's Trip to Provence is on the calendar this summer.
I'm making great progress on my 50 by 50 goal.
What we have planned so far takes me up to 40 countries in 2014.
All that is left is to fill in with weekend trips whenever possible.
On our wishlist for 2014 are Guernsey, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Norway.
I'm also planning to get back to the US sometime this year.
So many places, so little time!
“Travel is more than the seeing of sights;
it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
– Miriam Beard
Do you have any suggestions and tips to share about our 2014 destinations?
Where are you going in 2014?
Excited to hear about Iceland. I will be going in August.
ReplyDeleteYour travel plans sound wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting! You have a lot to look forward to! So far we only have one trip planned, Austria in February. I'm not sure what else we will get to do this year, but I'm hoping Ireland! You and everyone else have me sold on that one.
ReplyDeleteO yes please go to Guernsey and tell us all about it! This year so far we have planned Stockholm and England- most likely Bristol and another city and then I am going to California alone!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you are taking a girls trip to Provence but really, really peeved I won't still be here... AARRGGHH!!!
ReplyDeleteDunkirk will be so amazing, I am highly jealous, and of Minsk too - I hope you have the time of your life!
ReplyDeleteSo many places, so little time. Amen to that. We have so many goals- but time is limited and we might be leaving Europe by fall. How much can we squeeze in with the three littles? I think we're nuts.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous you are going to Iceland! That is on the top of my 2014 wish list!
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping to explore some new Caribbean islands this year. Safe travels!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great list! I'm jealous of your trip to Iceland, a country I've wanted to visit for quite a while now. Hope you have a wonderful trip and manage to come across the northern lights :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every minute of every trip and safe travels!
Such great spots... I'm dying to get to Egypt soon, so can't wait for that if you go. And can't wait to see how you like Iceland, it's so stunning there!!!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see Egypt... and Iceland... wait, can I steal your list? If I try really hard, I'll be able to fit into a large suitcase. Haha, have fun this year :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like some great travel plans! I can't wait to follow along on your adventures!
ReplyDeleteWhoo hoo! Awesome trips planned! You will LOVE Iceland! When are your day and brother over? Looking like we may be in London in early June, would love to see you! xx
ReplyDeleteYou may be nuts but do it anyway :) Kids are resilient!
ReplyDeleteWe're heading to Europe on a Trafalgar Tour and then to Chicago for a long weekend :) Of course you can read it all here: http://travelmiamor.blogspot.com/ :)
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot about Trafalgar Tours. Where all in Europe are you visiting? I'm so glad you commented. I'm loving your blog. I've followed on BlogLovin and can't wait to read more about your travels. Thanks so much for reading! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSo excited about Iceland! They are coming last week in May first week in June (if they ever confirm!) I'm so excited that you're coming to London! I know you'll be so busy but I would LOVE to meet up while you're here!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya. Looks like you have some fun stuff planned this year, too!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Egypt, but I'm a little concerned about how safe travel is there. We are just wanting this to be a weekend on a beach, and there is so much more to see in Egypt. So I think we're gonna go with Cyprus, instead. Egypt is still on the list. Very excited about upcoming travels! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Irene!! Fingers are crossed for the Northern Lights. That would be a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know what you mean, it's a major reason we haven't done Egypt yet. But Cyprus is beautiful! We went when I was a kid and it's a really beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteOh! I so miss the Caribbean. It's so gorgeous!!! Happy Travels!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a quick flight from London. I can't believe it. So excited!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrea. Just GO!!!
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to Dunkirk. So much history in that area. Thanks for reading and commenting, Holly!!
ReplyDeleteYou were the whole reason that we picked Provence! Maybe you will just have to return and join us!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really know much about Guernsey, but Matt is really excited to go. Stockholm is gorgeous!! You're gonna love it.
ReplyDeleteAustria is one of my favorites! I was so excited to see that you're going to Innsbruck. It is so lovely!!! And YOU HAVE TO GO TO IRELAND!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to go!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait! How long will you be there? What all have you planned?
ReplyDeleteWe won't have much time in Innsbruck, but hopefully enough for me to check out one or two things! :o) I'm starting to wish we were spending our whole Austria trip there. I don't know what I was thinking when I planned a ski trip! I can barely walk without falling down.
ReplyDeleteWe'll go for 5 days and I don't have an itinerary yet though I know I want to explore the reykjavik, swim in the springs, see the puffins, hike, eat an iceland hotdog...i'm going to prbly do more active things than I've ever done on a trip.
ReplyDeleteI love Trafalgar, this will be my 3rd tour with them. We'll start in Amsterdam, go through Germany and Switzerland and end up in Paris! I think Tours are great for people traveling to Europe from overseas; they take you to all the right places and show you the "important" stuff but still give you plenty of time to be on your own if you want to.
ReplyDeleteOooo, puffins! I'm going to have to check that out!!
ReplyDeleteIf you get a chance, take the gondola up the mountain in Innsbruck! That was one of my favorite travel days of 2013!! Such a pretty city. I went skiing. Once. Ended up scooting down the bunny hill on my butt. Not for me. :D
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like sooo much fun! So many great spots. You must be so excited!! I can't wait to read about your travels. xoxo
ReplyDeleteyey for Poland ;))) let me know ;)
