A few weeks ago, the Gluhwein Gang reunited and headed to the Christmas Markets,
two Texans, four Canadians, a Scot, a Brit, a Swede and an Irish lass.
I'll confess that I wasn't really in Travel Blogger mode.
I was much more interested in eating, drinking and making merry.
The weekend went by way too fast but we squeezed in a lot of fun and laughter.
One of our two stops was Vienna, Austria.
Vienna is absolutely gorgeous, such an elegant and stylish city.
I want to go back and spend some more time this summer.
Check out this post from fellow gang member and my sweet friend, Erin.
She's done a much better job of covering the Vienna Christmas markets.
I didn't take nearly as many photos as usual, but here are some of Vienna and the markets.
Matthew doesn't really like gluhwein but in Vienna we found a booth
selling gluhwein spiked with Jack Daniels. Suddenly he was a big fan.
We also spent a day in Bratislava. I'll share some of those photos tomorrow.
I hope you are all having a nice run up to Christmas.
I haven't done any shopping yet!
I'm heading to Canterbury with a few girlfriends tomorrow to remedy that.
Do you like gluhwien? How do you feel about Jack Daniels?

Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI went to Salzburg, and ever since I've wanted to explore the rest of Austria. Such a beautiful country. I've also heard about glühwein this whole month, and Casey, "We Took the Road Less Traveled," finally posted a recipe that I'm wanting to try. But naturally I want the real thing most of all. Why can America not have Christmas markets?!
ReplyDeleteVienna was so fun. We loved the different gluhwein combinations. I have to admit though that I liked the Berlin markets a little better. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been ages since I went to Vienna & I'm desperate to go back again. I remember eating at the most amazing restaurant which served loads of different types of goulash. YUM!
ReplyDeleteThe Vienna markets are probably my favorites (although we are hoping to do some German ones next year!). I hate gluhwien ;)
ReplyDeleteI visited Vienna in January this year and it was lovely! I think it's such a pretty town! I also think it's nice to take a break from travel blogging every once in a while and to just enjoy the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Vienna, I wouldn't have thought about Christmas markets there. I've heard it's such a lovely city
ReplyDeleteGosh, the sweets look scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, Selena. Makes me want to take off for Vienna!
ReplyDeleteOh, Gluhwein. How I crave thee on the regular. This looks simply delightful!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great Christmas with lots of Gluwien. Now we have to wait another year!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'd love to go back to Vienna, it's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteNow I have a fridge full of salads to recover from an overindulgent Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt really had such a regal feel to it. I love how every city feels so different. I'd love to go back in the Spring.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the much needed break, but now I'm ready to get right back into it. I've miss all of my blogging connections!
ReplyDeletelol on the gluhwien. Matt hates it, too. I usually get the white wine version. It's just so sweet after a while. I would highly recommend the German markets!! They were fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWe weren't there nearly long enough. Have to put it back into the rotation for a second visit. Someday.
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't freak you out too much running up to you in the airport! I just feel like I know you so I had to say hello :D Looks like you all had a fantastic time in Vienna. And New York! I have to get there someday.
ReplyDeleteI loved Salzburg! I think Austria is pretty fantastic. Christmas Markets in the US! That would be wonderful. Happy New Year, Jessie!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteChristmas markets are so much fun. Like Christmas on steroids. :D
ReplyDeleteOoh! Vienna at Christmas is definitely on my bucket list. Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through you. I have never tried gluhwein, but I recently tried vin chaud at a Christmas market in Paris and wasn't a fan.
ReplyDeleteVin Chaud wasn't my favorite either. Gluhwein is good, but I can't drink too much of it. It will certainly warm you up on a cold day. Vienna is so lovely. Thanks so much for reading & commenting!!! Do you have a blog? It's not linked on your disqus profile.
