"In Dublin's Fair City..."

I'm back from a fun three night cruise with MSC followed by three extra nights in Barcelona.
It was a terrific trip and I'm loading the photographs to the laptop today.
But first I have to tell you all about my last trip.

I finally have some photos from Dublin edited and ready to go!
I can't wait to share them with you over the next few weeks.
I still can't get over Ireland.
I had the most amazing time and absolutely fell in love with the place.

The people of Dublin were so welcoming and engaging.
Everyone wanted to connect.  Everyone was a storyteller.

I didn't realize how much I'd been missing that human touch.
I love London, but it's not a place for making random connections as you go through your day.

In Ireland, I soaked up those little daily connections like water.
The people of Dublin look into your eyes and they see you.
From taxi drivers to shopkeepers to waiters to tour guides, they connect and it's wonderful.

Today, I'm going to share some photos of Dublin and in future posts
I'll share some of the wonderful places that I visited.

In Dublin's fair city,
Where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!"

The pedestrian Liffey Bridge was built in 1816.  It was Ireland's first cast iron bridge.
It's also known as the Ha'penny Bridge as that was once the price to cross.
Watching the sun set over Dublin from this bridge was breathtaking.

One of the best things about Dublin is the live music.
Being a Texas girl, live music is something that I love and I've missed it so much.
I was drawn through door after door, following the sound of an Irish tune.

He was really enjoying the music and tapping his foot.
I touched my camera and raised my eyebrows in question to make sure I had his permission.
He happily agreed with this beautiful smile and a twinkle in his eye.

At the Gogerty Temple Bar, they keep a basket of bananas on hand in case all of that dancing and clapping depletes your potassium stores.

You should have seen the guy in the blond wig dancing a jig.  He was in full-on party mode.
You could not wipe the smile off of my face while the music was playing.

I had such a blast in Dublin!  I can't wait to go back.

What is your favorite thing about Dublin?

  6. I loved Dublin because there was NOTHING to do! Sounds like a miserable time, but nothing means relaxing and enjoying the music and the people and pubs. What a great city! (I don't literally mean nothing, but I kinda do, if you know what I mean.)

  9. I am loving your pictures of the Irish fellows smiling with their eyes (the one of the sweet old man and the second to last photo of the guitar player) ! That sweet old man reminds me of my papa who immigrated from Ireland to Boston back in the 1930's.

  10. Seeing the shots of Grafton St and Ha'penny bridge made me all sorts of homesick!
OK... so you know Gogarty's, and you know how there is a mural of people painted on the outside of it? Well my friend Jenny is one of the people painted in the mural. She's the blonde in the green turtleneck. True story.

  12. You are so right about the people wanting to conect and the sheer lack of it in London ... there are some more connected places but sadly they seem to be dwindling.

Loved the photos - they really gave a sense of the spirit of the place!

  17. Aww. I love the stories of the Irish who immigrated to the US. There were so many. I'm going to write about the Little Dublin Museum soon. They had an exhibit about the deep connection between Ireland & the US. Those Irish fellows were pretty adorable, old and young ;)

  21. I do know exactly what you mean. The joy of touring that city is the pubs and restaurants, just strolling around. The city, music and the people is the attraction.
