I Spy Friday

Another week has flown by and it's time for I Spy Friday, my weekly random sighting post.

Last Sunday was a little bit chilly, but we really needed to get out of the house.  I was craving pulled pork barbecue and Matt wanted to visit the Comedy Store.  So we decided to make a day of it.

First stop was Bodean's for lunch to satisfy the barbecue craving.  I'm from Texas which is the land of beef brisket.  However, my heart belongs in Tennessee which is where my parents grew up.  Tennessee bbq is all about the pork, throw in some creamed corn, bbq beans, corn bread and Budweiser on draft and I was a happy camper.  They even have chips and queso on the menu.  Tortilla chips were good, queso was a little bit runny, but it hit the spot.  They even had country music piped in.  It was a little taste of home in London.

The best way to see London is on foot.  And this was a great walk.  We crossed Tower Bridge and walked through the City of London.  We stopped at the Blackfriars Pub.  We passed the Bank of England and the Lord Mayor's Mansion House.

Then continued our walk to One New Change Shopping Center.  (No shopping.)  As we passed St. Paul's Cathedral, the bells were chiming.  The sound bounces off all the buildings around it.  It's a lovely sound and feels like it's coming from every direction.

We continued on down Fleet Street.  We saw the only building that was left standing after the Great London Fire.  We stopped at The George across from the Royal Courts of Justice for a pint and a quick game of Connect Four.

Continuing on we followed the Strand and went through Covent Garden where we happened upon the Red Carpet for that evenings Olivier Awards.  There was a pre-show stage set up and we watched a dance from the show Billy Elliot.  We continued our walk through Leicester Square and finished the night at The Comedy Store.

It was about a four mile walk and we took it very slow.  There is so much to see along the way.  I'd highly recommend this route for a weekend walk.  It's a great day out.

At The Comedy Store we saw the improv show.  It is the original of the show that Whose Line Is It Anyway? was based on and Josie Lawrence was in the cast.  I was so excited!  I remember her from watching the original British version years ago.  It was absolutely hysterical!  We were right in the front row.  Luckily, it was improv and not stand up so we didn't get picked on.

All in all a fantastic London day!

This week has been pretty quiet.  I had lunch out with a friend on Monday and I'm doing that again with another friend today.  The sun has been out all week which has been wonderful.

The cruise ships are in town.  There was a bit of fanfare yesterday when this one went under the Tower Bridge.

I've noticed that my comments have dropped.  I'm wondering if maybe it has to do with the change to the Disqus commenting system.  If you are having trouble commenting, please send me a note at Selena_Jones@me.com.  I love reading your comments!  And certainly don't want to make that harder for you.

I also want to mention the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards one more time.  I was shortlisted in the travel category which is brilliant.  The next step is to use your votes to narrow the field down to six in each category.  I know there is no way I'll win.  Have you seen the blogs that are nominated?  They are fantastic.

But, I would be over the moon to be in the final six.  Here is the link if you'd like to vote.  I'm be attending their conference in June and they have a fancy award night and everything.  Very exciting.

Do you get in on the Zatchels half-price sale a few weeks ago?  I got this cute little red barrel bag!  It's adorable. It's a British company that sells hand-made leather bags made to order.  I think their website must have been bombarded when they advertised everything was half-price.

And finally, I will leave you with a picture of my new favorite dessert.  It's called The Colonel and it's lime sherbert and vodka.  Holy cat it's good!  This picture is from our Champagne district trip.  I'll be posting more about that next week.

Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see what I'm up to next week.

Have a lovely weekend!!
