Another one of the itinerary changes we made with Sugar Bear was replacing Westminster Abbey with the London Zoo. I know, I know. Why would anyone prefer cute, furry creatures over a majestic cathedral... but this was her trip. She did climb to the top of St. Paul's Cathedral while she was here, so we let her off the hook
and headed off to The London Zoo.
The zoo opened to the public in 1847. The urban zoo's long history is obvious in some of the architecture and exhibits. They have done some major renovations and that project continues. It's not a massive, sprawling zoo, but plenty to see.
Everybody loves penguins!
The admission price is about £20 per adult which a little steep but we took our time and had a wonderful day.
There is a beautiful butterfly farm which is just one of the exhibits where the creatures are loose around you. This made getting pictures a lot of fun.
Particularly the monkeys! Visitors are warned to be careful when taking strollers (prams) into the monkey exhibits. The little scamps have discovered that strollers usually contain treats.
Isn't he gorgeous? I couldn't stop taking pictures of him.
There are special shows in several of the exhibits so be sure to check out the website for times.
During the summer they also have Late Night Fridays which would be the perfect date night.
We stopped for a snack and had Celebrity Sighting #2. At the table next to us was Liev Schreiber with his boys. He is even more handsome in person! No pictures, sorry.
Another celebrity sighting!!! It's the Meerkats!!!
Cutest face EVER!
TE and SB just hanging out and that is certainly NOT a hairy armadillo. I think he was trying to throw us off.
There is just so much to see in London.
I'm thrilled that we were able to share it with Sugar Bear.
Where is your favorite zoo?
xoxo
